JEE exams witness a drop of 52,500 students this year

Around 13.035 lakh students have registered for Joint Entrance Test, Main (JEE Main-2015), the first leg of the two-stage examination process for engineering admissions, scheduled in April.
However, there is a drop of around 52,500 students compared to last year when around 13.56 lakh students registered for exam.

The last day for registration for JEE (Main) was on December 27, but the dates were extended up to January 10 for aspirants from Manipur. The state had recently joined the nationallevel exam.
JEE Main, an all-India engineering entrance exam is conducted by the Central Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (CBSE) for admission to centrally funded engineering institutions like National Institute of Technology (NIT) and others.
It is also the first screening test for IIT admissions.
While there has been a constant increase in number of candidates since 2012  this is the first time the number has dropped.

“Poor quality of faculty in the engineering colleges and increase in job opportunities in other streams could be the reasons for decrease in the number of people registering for JEE Main,” said an IIT aspirant.
However, in Maharashtra, for the academic year 2014-15, more than 40% of engineering seats remained vacant, according to data presented by the state’s higher and technical education minister during the recent winter session.
GT Thampi, principal, Thadomal Shahani College of Engineering, Bandra said, “This trend seems temporary. The interest in engineering education is decreasing because of the higher fees charged in engineering institute compared to other courses. However, placements in engineering institutes have suffered leaving many engineers unemployed.”

JEE MAIN FORM CORRECTION DATE

As per the information available on official website the students can
make correction in the particular and if intimated should also remove
image discrepancies.

Image Discrepancy :
The images uploaded by the candidates in their application form are being
verified by the CBSE and in case of any discrepancy in the image(s), the SMS
and e-mail is being sent to the candidates to re-upload the image(s).
This process may take about one month so the candidates should wait
for SMS/e-mail. If no discrepancy is found in the images, no SMS/e-mail
will be sent to the candidates.

Correction in Particulars
The facility for correction in particulars of the application form, regarding the
mistakes committed by the candidates, will be available on the website during
19 - 31st January, 2015. This is the last and final chance for correction so
candidates should do the correction, only if required, very carefully.

How can be a one month Crash Course Sufficient for clearing IIT!!!

I came across a very relevant article on the Crash Course for IIT Jee on merinews.com.
The article I am pasting below:
The ad read like this. "Join us for one month crash course to clear IIT-JEE entrance.
Success guaranteed." I was bewildered to read this.
The pamphlets were given by someone at the school entrance to my son who is
writing the 12th board this time.
Being a parent, I was already worried, as being the state-board student and without
a long-term preparation, his chances of cracking (even) the IIT Main is almost nil.
Like me, most of the parents inTamil Nadu are waiting with bated breathe for the
cut-off marks to be scored by their wards to enter into the Anna
University-affiliated colleges (one of the top ten at least) with the stream of their
choice.
In Chennai (I am sure, there must be pretty much same situation in other cities too),
big to small-time institutes have started to woo students (and parents) with their
"Crash Courses" which they would start after the board exams. However, whether
a student from state board or CBSE, will this short time is enough for him to
crack the most prestigious entrance exam?
In Chennai, much to the disappointment of some of these institutes, the 12th board annual
exam pattern has been changed (for 2015 March). Instead of computer science, one of the
core subjects Physics will be the last exam this time.
Earlier, once the Maths exam was over, these institutes used to begin their crash courses soon
after as Computer Science, which used to be the last exam, was not considered for cut-off mark
calculation by Anna University affiliated colleges for engineering admission.
If this is not enough, this year the IIT entrance exam has been propound to April 10-11 for
Chennai circle. For state board students eying for IIT entrance, they will be writing their
last exam on March 26, 2015. Which means these students will have only two weeks to
prepare for IIT entrance!
Many of the IIT coaching centres have already taken advance money from parents in Chennai
by giving assurances that students will be prepared well ahead of IIT entrance date. But the
change in the exam pattern has thrown the spanner in their works.
Some of the institutes are putting a brave face telling parents that they will increase the daily
coaching time to prepare the students. But will this one month crash course help students to
clear even the preliminary round of IIT entrance? Across the country, students prepare for
more than two years for IIT and even then, many of them don't clear it.
Since there is a vast difference between the state board and CBSE syllabus, it is my presumption
that unless a child, who is studying state board syllabus, keeps a track of the extra portion in the
CBSE under a given topic, it is pretty much difficult to clear the first level that is IIT Mains to
 enter into NITs.
How these institutes are going to prepare students within two or three weeks for the most
prestigious and difficult entrance examination, only time will tell.

MY TAKE: With so much money coming into this lucrative coaching business which presently
is valued at $23.7 billion growing at 35% pa from last five years the people are leveraging
too much.
The management and marketing people are getting too unrealistic and promising even more
than what Mr. Modi did it during the elections.
Cracking IIT by a one month crash course is a classic example of "Ganje ko kanghi bechna".
