CBSE PHYSICS BOARD EXAM: PREPARATION TIPS

CBSE class XII board examinations will be starting pretty soon and the PHYSICS paper will be held on March 7, 2018, just a day after English exam. Hence this year students will be getting very less time for revision then.

So in this special series designed to help you to prepare and score better in the Examinations, we are taking up the topic "How to prepare for Physics paper".

Students often get stressed about learning derivations and what to write, how much to write  in a given question. The problem gets aggravated because of so called preparation books which almost write complete chapter as suggested answers. To help you I am giving some suggestions based on my experiences.

 Know the Pattern

All of you must have appeared for half yearly and pre-board examinations and most likely you are now aware of the pattern of the paper. To just be sure check the blue print and latest sample paper first. You can check them here

Identify all the derivations and devices

Just by looking down the syllabus and NCERT books first identify all the derivations and devices (like moving coil galvanometer, cyclotron, transistor as  amplifier, etc ) whose working you need to remember. Just make notes of these topics making sure that you write only that much which is sufficient and can be written within the given time.To help you in how much to write just look at the marking schemes provided on CBSE website where each and every required details are listed out. You can  check the suggested marking schemes of previous year papers here.
This will give you tremendous confidence.

Don't write extra

Because of preparing and learning too much students tens to overwrite the answers giving unnecessary details and making answers lengthier and as a result fails to complete the paper. Many of my students have done this fault in past, so please don't write extra other than required.
For 1 mark: just write one word(if that's only asked) or 2-3 lines at max
For 2 marks: 3-4 lines at max
For 3 Marks- not more than half a page unless diagrams are involved.
For 5 Marks: 1 Page around but please check marking schemes to get an idea that what key points must be covered(Better to answer part wise and in points)

All diagrams must be drawn neatly and properly labelled.
For solving numericals please write the steps properly.Try to avoid shortcuts learnt for objective competitive examinations.

Go through Previous year papers

Go through at-least last three year papers as well as last year's compartment paper and try atleat one of them as mock test within time limit.

Lastly , I will advice that never start paper from Section E (5 Marks) , because students tend to write extra and devotes more time in order to have those full 5.

Good Luck!!!

CBSE's 'surprise' may be a signal for reforms in exams: Hindustan Times

The ‘tough’ mathematics paper in the CBSE’s Class 12 exam has again brought to the centre stage the wisdom of making optional the Class 10 board exam for students. It was the UPA government’s decision.
The minister concerned, Kapil Sibal, had then said that the board exams were not always the “right measure” of a student’s talent. It is true students of the age of 15-16 are temperamentally not often suited to appear for a very important exam on which much of their future depends. This is particularly true for students with a less affluent background.
Many of them tend to give up education after failing in the Class 10 exam. But there can be a counter-argument also.
The Class 10 exam is a relatively simple affair, not only in the case of the CBSE but some other state boards also. And it was seen to prepare the soil for students to get ready for tougher exams, including the competitive ones. It is for this reason that there are reports of making it mandatory again.
The general complaint about the Class 12 maths paper was that it had a high proportion of tough questions, which is against the norm that the board follows in question setting.
If this is a fallout of a change in policy, the board owes an explanation to the candidates because to appear for the IIT entrance exam, a minimum level of marks is necessary. If a student has prepared for his exam keeping a certain format in mind, it is unfair to expect him to perform equally well in a changed format.
Should the CBSE consider bringing back the mandatory Class 10 exam, it can introduce a reformed structure.
For instance, there can be two types of physics courses of different standards, and students can take just one of them though opting for the easier variety may deprive them of the chance to take up science in Class 11.

Similarly, for Class 12 there can be two papers in mathematics, though the courses could be the same. If a student finds at some stage of his plus two course that a career in science or engineering is not up his street, he could appear in the simpler maths test. This way a lot of embarrassment can be avoided.

CBSE cold to online plea over ‘tough’ physics paper

Unhappy with a 'tough' std XII CBSE physics question paper, over 3,000 people have signed an online petition asking for leniency in marking. Since the marks are clubbed along with the Joint Entrance Exam (JEE) for engineering college admissions, it is vital students have good marks in this subject. While the opinion over the difficulty level of the physics exam is divided, it is pretty much clear that CBSE won't be entertaining this online petition.

A source in the central board said there are multiple inbuilt systems of checks and balances, hence it is unlikely that the online petition will be able to make any impact. The source said, "CBSE has a very democratic set-up and all our systems are in place to ensure that students do not suffer in any way. For every board exam paper schools are asked to send an 'observation schedule', which is a report of any issues they noticed in the paper. If any, this is taken up and a decision is taken."

The official further added that questions papers are vetted by academic experts to ensure that they fit the norms of the board's blueprint. "What is the locus standi of this online petition? There are set procedures to appeal to the board, which are in place since a long time," the official said.

The online petition has come up on the website . At the time of going to press 3,537 people had 'signed' it. The idea is to get the names of petitioners mentioned online and take a printout so that it can be given to the decision making authority. This particular petition was started by an anonymous person, yet it continues to gather support.

While it is not known if any students from Nagpur signed the petition, some students from Nagpur agreed that it was indeed a tough paper to crack.

Aatima Bhatia, a student, said, "Everything in the paper was out of context. We are taught how to manage our time so that a 3 mark question get maximum 5 minutes, but it took almost 15 minutes of our time. I started from section D but it took almost 2 hours of my time. I feel that this petition is good. What I don't understand is the logic of how the board will mark us leniently when we haven't written much, since we did not understand the questions or the paper was lengthy. However, I do want someone to save us somehow."

Another student, Aman Agarawal, said, "The paper was very tricky and lengthy. Marks weren't distributed properly. I mean the questions which should have been of 1 or 2 marks were for 3 or more marks, and a 3 mark question was made into a 5 mark question. The questions were difficult and I also felt that the marks distribution of chapters was exchanged."

A CBSE teacher said, "Students usually find the physics-math-chemistry-biology group tough to crack. It is natural for them to feel that the paper was lengthy but ultimately it all depends on your point of view."

CBSE PHYSICS Re-Examination Likely after alleged leekage is proved

The three sets of Physics question paper, which were uploaded on Hueiyen Lanpao's website as "leaked out" question paper for today's All India Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (AISSCE)-2014 conducted by Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), have all turned out to be the exact question paper for the examination, thus clearing the doubts over this leakage.

The Physics paper of AISSCE carries a total of 100 marks including 30 marks for practical.

It was reported that the "leaked" question paper for Physics was sold for Rs.3000 to 5000 in the State.

The question papers were found available two/three days ahead of the examination.

The "leaked" question papers were also uploaded on social networking sites and popular web portals for the public to ascertain the fact.

Many responses came within few hours of the upload.

Most people decried the leakage while few of them considered the question papers to be fake.

As the examination for Physics paper was also held at various examination centres in the State, many students including their parents rang up the office of Hueiyen Lanpao confirming the "question leakage" .

One person from Guwahati, who had seen the "leaked" question papers on Facebook, said that all three sets of Physics question paper came in the examination.

Some people claiming to be Imphal-based officials of CBSE came to Hueiyen Lanpao office asking for the original hard copies of the "leaked" Physics question paper.

But, their request was not entertained.

Another student called up the Hueiyen Lanpao office asking whether the question paper for Chemistry was available, and requested to upload the same if available like in the case of Physics.

When Hueiyen Lanpao contacted the CBSE officials in New Delhi on telephone, a lady replied that nothing could be said at the moment as the matter was being discussed by a high level committee of the CBSE.

Any development in the case would be uploaded on CBSE's websites, www.cbse.nic.in and www.cbse.gov.in. However, both websites of CBSE remained inaccessible till the time of filing this report.

Unfortunately, the website of Hueiyen Lanapao "www.hueiyenlanpao.com" also crashed possibly due to huge internet traffic in the aftermath of the expose.

However, engineers have been put into tasks to fix the problem.

Many students' bodies and other organizations have started condemning the 'leakage' and demanded the authorities concerned to look into the scam and conduct reexamination at the earliest.

They also urged the authorities to bust the question racketeers and ensure proper conduct of CBSE examinations in the State.
