JOSAA: Lock choices for IITs, NITs by this evening

The deadline for online filling-in and locking of choices for the joint seat allocation process for IITs and NITs has been extended by a day after the portal slowed down for 15-20 hours since Saturday.

The site slowed down and displayed a session expiry error after most students logged on to check their mock allocation status, a facility extended by the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) for the first joint process. The site opened for registration at noon on Sunday. Nearly 1.5 lakh students have registered so far for admissions in 85 government-funded technical institutions (GFTIs), including the premier IITs and NITs. Students can now register till 5pm on Monday. The rest of the schedule will stay.

JoSAA authorities said on Sunday the mock seat allocation was a success, as only 150 seats in NITs were vacant. Though there was no confirmation on whether there will be vacancies in institutes after the final round, if mock seat allocations are any indicator, prospects seem to be good, an official said. He added, "Only 150 seats in NITs are vacant, of the 34,000 seats in all 85 institutes. Most seats were filled in the mock allocation process." The Delhi high court had directed IITs and NITs to conduct a joint seat allocation process after a professor from IIT-Kharagpur sought it, citing several vacant seats in these premier institutes. In the joint process, a student is allotted only one seat at a time, on the basis of choice and merit.

The first joint admission process was delayed by a week as CBSE released the JEE (Main) rank list on June 30. The process began on July 1, instead of June 25. Sunday was supposed to be the last day for registration and online filling-in of choices. The first round of seat allocation will be on schedule, on July 7, officials said.

    1. Any of the reporting centre for IIT+ system mentioned on the site. The business rule says "Candidates should report in person at a Reporting Center for document verification before the date/time specified for document verification and get the seat confirmed. The list of reporting centres is available on the online portal http://josaa.nic.in.
Candidates who are allocated a seat in an NIT, IIIT (Triple-I-T) or Other-GFTI has to report only at a reporting center of NIT, IIIT (Triple-I-T) and Other-GFTI.
Candidates who are allocated a seat in an IIT or ISM have to report only at a reporting center of the IITs."
